The world-famous New York City Marathon has grown from a small race (55 runners completed the race back in 1970, circling Central Park several times) to the largest, most popular marathon on the planet (last year there were nearly 50,000 finisher!). The race begins in Staten Island and runs through all five boroughs before reaching the coveted finish line in Central Park. Join the festivities and cheer on these weary warriors at various points throughtout the city – First Avenue and Central Park South have always been my favorite spots to lend my enthusiasm to this annual spectacle.
