What a better way to spend a cold January day than to pour over a new cookbook and think of all the things that you can create to warm the body and soul. I love this one and the organization it supports.
City Harvest: 100 Recipes from Great New York Restaurants http://www.amazon.com
I’m sure you’ve seen City Harvest trucks around the city. They collect roughly 150,000 pounds of food each day to be distributed among several hundred soup kitchens and food pantries across the city feeding over 1.4 million hungry New Yorkers every year. Since it was founded, the organization has collected more than 500 million pounds of food and counts some of the top NYC restaurants as key supporters. Author Florence Fabricant gathered 100 recipes from chefs such as Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Tom Colicchio and Ivy Stark to name a few. So get out those pots and pans and start cooking!
Another book I’m finding interesting is:
Behind the Bottle: The Rise of Wine on Long Island http://www.amazon.com
A look at the people who have made Long Island into one of the hottest wine regions in the country. Once a region famed for their duck and potatoes, Long Island is now visited by 1.3 million people each year. Long Island wines are receiving rave reviews from Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal to name a few. Pour me some Pinot!
