Through November 19th
We are accustomed to seeing uniforms in everyday life: on police officers, military personnel, sports teams and schoolchildren to name a few examples. While we take them for granted as an item of clothing, they have exerted a powerful and surprising influence on the world of fashion. Where uniform design focuses on functionality, control and tradition, paradoxically the world of fashion on the other hand promotes constant change, creativity and subversion. These two seeming disparate worlds merge in the exhibit, “Uniformity” now featured at The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
