George Segal’s sculpture “Gay Liberation” was installed in Christopher Park in 1992 after a 12 year battle with Greenwich Village residents. The work was created specifically for the site, across the street from the Stonewall Inn. The work consists of four life-size bronze figures painted white: two women seated and two men standing together in front of it. The models were two gay couples who were friends of the artist.

This unpretentious basement gem 55 Bar showcases Jazz, Funk and Blues nightly. Open since 1919, this music venue keeps the divey dignity of a bygone era that is quickly fading away.

Comprising of 197 work dating from the Renaissance to the present, Unfinished: Thoughts Left Visible, addresses a subject critical to artistic practice: the question of when a work of art is finished. Beginning with the Renaissance masters, this innovative exhibition examines the term “unfinished” in it’s broadest possible sense, including works left incomplete by their makers, which often gave insight into the process of their creation.

The New York Philharmonic will be hosting it’s 25th Annual Free Memorial Day Concert at The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine. The concert will feature Brahm’s Symphony No. 2, as well as performances by Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Wynton Marsalis and baritone Thomas Hampson.

After being under consideration for the last 28 years the Landmarks Preservation Commission has designated the Queens Pepsi-Cola sign in Long Island City an official New York City landmark. “Its prominent setting and its frequent appearances in pop culture have made it one of the most endearing and recognizable icons on the Queens waterfront,” Meenakshi Srinivasan, the chairwoman of the Landmarks Preservation Commission, said in a statement.
Installed in 1936 on top of the long-since-demolished Queens Pepsi bottling plant, the sign has been dismantled and shifted along the Queens waterfront multiple times since the late 1990’s (the current sign is actually a 1994 restoration, as the original sign was severely damaged in a storm). In 2013, a 25 story apartment tower on the Queens waterfront was partially recessed to give the sign more prominence.
