TURNSTYLE is the new retail and food development project occupying one of the city’s most vital and pivotal subways stations located on Eighth Avenue between 57-59th Streets. Comprised of 20 eateries and 17 retail permanent and pop-up shops, this “Girl” has already delighted in a few of the shops offerings, including:

DOG AND CO. – The world is “going to the dogs” with this NY-based quality pet products pop-up shop. Clothes, accessories and all any self-respecting pooch could need is here. Give ’em a bark! While there, be sure and check out the whimsical and poignant pet portraits featured by Robert Stoetzel Photography (Robert@Stoetzelphoto.com).
KIT’S UNDERGROUND WINE & SPIRITS
The “spirit’s” are truly flowing at this uniquely friendly, low-key and curated specialty shop. Whether picnicking in the Park or hooting it up on the Hudson, this place has got you covered. Owner Kit Pepper (don’t you just love her name?!) writes a brief description for every wine she selects for the shop. Whether you need a warm full-bodied (sustainable!) Chardonnay to go with your cheese plate while watching Shakespeare in the Park or a $4.99 sake (think easy, on-the-go “Snapple” packaging) that might be the perfect accompaniment to your Mermaid Parade celebration on Coney Island – it’s all here. Leave your lack of spirits knowledge at the door!
PROJECT NO. 8

Project No. 8 is an off-shoot of the mischievous gift shop in the Ace Hotel, this newest incarnation located down under the bowels of the 59th Street subway station holds an amalgam of the wacky and wonderful. You can get a real New York souvenir, made in New York by real New Yorkers as well as all manner of unusual gifts, magazines, travel goods (I’m so lovin’ the custom made key tags!), sweets, specialty pencils and leather journals.
GREYSTON BAKERY – I’m still salivating just thinking about the outrageously delectable brownies and cookies I sampled here. Equally enticing is the spiritually-rooted philosophy embraced by the Greyston organization i.e. “We don’t hire people to bake brownies, we bake brownies to hire people”. Treat yourself to a mouth-watering delight and support local employment opportunities at the same time.
